the live artifact sits on one side of the page. the reasoning runs beside it: the question, the directions you considered, the one that won, what it cost, and what is still open.

the problem

a prototype is very good at showing what you decided and almost useless at carrying why. by the time the work reaches the people who approve it, the reasoning is gone, and what arrives is a polished screen with no argument attached.

what illume does

the artifact stays live: not a screenshot and not a video. the prototype sits in the page, clickable the whole way down. a reader looking at the third alternative can open the third alternative.
the reasoning runs beside it: the question you were answering, the directions you considered, the one that won, what it cost, and what is still open. the argument travels with the work instead of staying in your head.
rejected work is shown, not hidden: most of the value in a design decision is in what you chose against. illume keeps the discarded directions in the record, because a decision without its alternatives is just an assertion.
